Expected 2016 QLD earthmoving and construction boom

Road works

2016 is shaping up to be a great year for those working in the earthmoving industry with plenty of projects and
construction in planning and already underway including the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Here are just some
of the earthmoving and construction projects that are at planning and tender stages or are already in progress
in Queensland.

 

Toowoomba Second Range Crossing

Principal: Nexus Infrastructure Consortium
Scope: The delivery of four lanes of new road between the Warrego Highway East Interchange to Warrego
Highway West, a number of grade separated interchanges, an 800 metre viaduct over Queensland Rail’s
current line and a continuation of the New England Highway. Construction has formally begun.
Value: $1.6 billion

 

Yeppen Floodplain project

Principal: Queensland Government
Scope: Construction of 2.1km of new bridges across the Yeppen Floodplain and major intersection upgrades.
Commissioning has now begun.
Value: $170 million

 

Stockland Aura Caloundra South Master Planned Community City

Principal: Stockland Group
Scope: The construction of a new city containing 20,000 homes, commercial spaces and community amenities.
Value: $5 billion

 

Kidston pumped storage project

Principal: Genex Power
Scope: The construction of a hydroelectric power plant on the site of the disused Kidston Gold Mine. The
Australian Renewable Energy Agency has just contributed $4 million in funding to determine the project’s
viability.
Value: $282 million

 

Cooroy to Curra Section C (Traveston to Woondum)

Principal: Queensland Government
Scope: The construction of a 10.5km four-lane divided highway as part of a 61km upgrade of the Bruce
Highway. Fulton Hogan Lend Lease, John Holland and Leighton Contractors have been shortlisted for the
works.
Value: $700 million

 

Gas infrastructure for Surat Basin

Principal: Leighton Contractors
Scope: The construction of gas infrastructure in the Surat Basin for QGC. The contract has just been awarded.
Value: $250 million

 

Moreton Bay Rail project

Principal: TrackStar Alliance
Scope: The construction of 12.6 kilometres of dual-track railway, including 22 bridges and other rail
infrastructure. The first of six stations has just been completed.
Value: $988 million

 

Bruce Highway – Caloundra Road to Sunshine Motorway project

Principal: Queensland Department of Main Roads, Road Safety and Ports
Scope: The upgrade of a seven kilometre stretch of motorway to six-lanes, including related road
infrastructure. Two companies have been shortlisted to tender: a Fulton Hogan/Seymour Whyte joint venture
and the Infrastructure Group consortium.
Value: $1.134 billion

 

CQUniversity Urban University Village

Principal: Queensland Government
Scope: The transformation of 80 hectares of land at CQUniversity into a mixed use area with residential, retail,
community and recreational areas. Expressions of interest are now being sought.
Value: $140 million

 

Sunshine Coast Airport Expansion

Principal: Sunshine Coast Regional Council
Scope: The construction of an expansion to Sunshine Coast Airport.
Value: $350 million

 

Clare Solar Farm Development

Principal: FRV Services
Scope: The construction of a solar farm generating 150MW of energy.
Value: $400 million

 

Yeerongpilly Green Master Planned Community

Principal: Consolidated Properties Group
Scope: The construction of a master planned community containing 1200 apartments and townhouses, a retail
and commercial precinct and other amenities.
Value: $850 million

 

Gold Coast Light Rail Stage Two

Principal: TransLink
Scope: The construction and design of a 7.3km extension of the Gold Coast Light Rail from Gold Coast
University to Helensvale.
Value: $700 million

 

Port of Brisbane Road Upgrade

Principal: Port of Brisbane Corporation
Scope: The upgrade of 3.2 kilometres of Port Drive into a dual carriageway, including intersection upgrades at
key locations.
Value: $110 million

 

Brookwater Golf and Spa Residential Resort

Principal: Grounds Kent Architects
Scope: The development of a five star resort containing 524 apartments across 131 buildings, as well as
amenities.
Value: $550 million

 

Brisbane Racing Doomben and Eagle Farm Racecourse Redevelopment

Principal: Mirvac
Scope: The redevelopment of 250,000 square metres of area comprising the Brisbane Racing Doomben and
Eagle Farm Racecourse.
Value: $400 million

 

Pacificus Tourism Project

Principal: Eaton Place
Scope: The construction of the Hummock Hill Island resort, including hotel accommodation and an 18-hole golf
course.
Value: $950 million
